This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

“8:1-23 This chapter looks at the positive prospect of God’s future blessings. It opens with a distinct message that God will dwell in the city of Jerusalem (v.3). At that time, Judah will be exalted among the nations and made holy (cf. Isa. 2:2, 3). God then asks a rhetorical question, implying that these things are certainly not too difficult for him to achieve (v. 6). He then reveals that this plan for Jerusalem would be carried out in connection with the regathering of his people from their worldwide dispersion (vv. 7, 8) and his reidentification with them (see the note on Hosea 1:10-2:1). As a result, the people were to obey the prophets God had placed among them and deal honestly with one another (vv. 9-17). Their fasts would ultimately be turned into feasts of joy and gladness, with many nations seeking to come to the Lord in Jerusalem (vv. 19-23, cf. Isa. 25:7; 49:6, 22, 23; 60:3-12; Zech. 14:16). To be a Jew in that day would bring honor, not reproach (v. 23).”

“1:10-2:1 This brief prophecy of the millennial reign of Christ affirms that the restoration of God’s people to the land of Israel will be a physical one. They will be called “children of the living God” in the same place where it was said of them, “You are not my people” (v. 10, cf. Ezek. 37:14, 21-25). They will be reunited under one leader.” (HEBREW-GREEK KEY WORD® STUDY BIBLE) (ESV) (English Standard Version) (AMG Publishers)
